Introduction

VW-Porsche Vertriebsgesellschaft GmbH (VG for short) was the fifty-fifty partnership created between VW and Porsche to handle all aspects (design, construction, marketing, sales, etc.) of the 914. At the time, Porsche's small production facilities could not absorb a new product line and they were looking to expand beyond the 911 and 912. A number of automobile manufactures at that time were entering into partnerships to produce products together. During this same period, VW was looking for a sporty replacement for the Karmann-Ghia. Due to the similar goals and extended shared history of the two companies, the partnership was created.
