Introduction

All users are expected to abide by official policies and guidelines.

Policies

Behavioral

  • Self promotion or advertising will not be tolerated. This does not mean that all mention of commercial related items or services is forbidden in articles. However anything along this line should be done in a non-biased way. 914 Wiki administrators will make the final call on what is acceptable.
  • Abuse will not be tolerated. Vandalizing articles, Personal attacks Libelous statements, etc. will lead to the loss of any editing privileges.
  • You agreed to allow others to modify your work.

Content and Style

  • Abide by the information in the copyrights and licensing article. In short, The Porsche 914 Wiki uses the GNU Free Documentation License and you should also not submit work which infringes upon the copyrights of others.
  • Avoid bias. Articles should be written from a neutral point of view, representing views fairly, proportionately and without bias.
  • Follow the naming conventions.
  • Follow the image use policies.

Deletion

  • 914 Wiki is a repository for historical and technical information related to the Porsche 914 (and derived models). Content that is not deemed to be in this spirit may be edited or removed. This includes the potential use of automated controls by the Wiki administrators to allow for the approval or denial of edits. Please be aware of what the 914 Wiki is not.

What The Porsche 914 Wiki is not

  • An anarchy. You can’t do whatever you want.
  • A democracy. You can’t vote on how things should be run.
  • A soapbox. This is not a place for you to try to make personal points.
  • A battleground. This is not a place to fight to the death.
  • A home for personal essays. This is content created by a community of people. Not a single person’s viewpoint.
  • A mirror for content hosted elsewhere. The content here should be unique and not an exact copy of content that has been created elsewhere.
  • A location for personal web pages. This is not MySpace or your Blog.

Guidelines

Behavioral

  • Be Polite and Civil. Behavior that creates a hostile or stressful environment is not helpful. You may not always be able to expect others to agree or even respect each other, but you can expect them to act in a civil way.
  • Assume good faith. Allowing users to edit articles implies that we are assuming that they are acting in good faith. That they are trying to create useful content. This particularly applies to newcomers. If you see edits that you don’t agree with, consider discussing the change first before making any changes.
  • Work toward agreement. If an article has differing opinions, please try to work with the active editors to gravitate toward a mutually agreed upon content.
  • Respect other contributors. Contributors have widely different views. So treating others with respect is key to collaborating effectively in building a rich Wiki.
  • Argue over facts and not personalities. If you must argue, keep it about the facts.
  • Remember The Golden Rule. Treat others as you want them to treat you.

Content and Style

  • Be Bold. Wiki content grows and improves when people create and edit articles. Don’t be afraid to edit an article if you feel something is incorrect or incomplete. It is your responsibility to create new content. However you should also not take it personally if someone edits content that you have previously created. You should also not be reckless with your editing. While as a new user, it might be fun to dive in an edit away, making significant changes to large articles with a long history may not be a good way to start.
  • Don't include exact copies of content from primary sources.
  • Check your facts
  • Cite sources when possible
