General

The Porsche 914 Wiki image use policies is based mostly upon the policies used by Wikipedia.

  • Do not upload shocking or explicit pictures unless they have been previously approved by The Porsche 914 Wiki Administrators.
  • Always list on the image description page the following information…
    • Description: The subject of the image
    • Source: The copyright holder of the image or URL of the web page the image came from
    • Date: Date the image was created. The more exact, the better
    • Location: Where the image was created. The more exact the better
    • Author: The image creator, especially if different from the copyright holder
    • Permission: Who or what law or policy gives permission to post on The Porsche 914 Wiki. This includes the License information if known.
  • Use a clear and detailed title. A short title such as "914.jpg" is not very good. While wordy, a better example would be "914 SONAUTO Number 40 at Colorado Springs Parade - Photo 12.jpg". Be aware that if any image with the same title has already been uploaded that it will be replaced with the new one. That is why descriptive names are needed.
  • Try to use the following file types…
    • JPEG for photographic images.
    • SVG for icons, logos, diagrams, etc. and then fallback to PNG when an SVG is not available.
    • GIF for animations.
    • Do not use uncompressed formats such as Windows BMP images.
  • All image content is no different than any other content and must follow the license used by The Porsche 914 Wiki. For user created images, this means that while you as the photographer own the copyright, you have released it under the free GFDL license for use on The Porsche 914 Wiki.

Fair use

Please read and understand what fair use means. As a general rule of thumb, you can use low-resolution images of copyrighted material as long as they are unlikely to affect the potential market for the material, are used for the purpose of analysis or criticism, and for which there is no alternative such as free or non-copyrighted versions available. Content that is used via fair use needs to be flagged as such. Any content that is used via fair use, but is a flagrant violation of copyright can be deleted immediately.
