...putting together a 2.1L for my '74 914. I've got all the new parts (almost) and have torn down a 1.8L case that I need some cleaning and work done on. Any suggestions who you have had good experience with around the Bay Area/SF?

These guys are the defacto Porsche machine shop in the bay area. http://www.germanprecisioninc.com/

You might ask Rich Bontempi at High Performance House where he is sending stuff these days.

A few years back, Rich was using Tech Craft in Redwood City for "normal" machining. Someone else for specialty stuff.

Avoid Ellsworth's in Mountain View. A couple of bad experiences there made me regret ever talking with them. I have heard a few other reports from 914 folks as well...

Where exactly in the Bay Area are you? I've got a great guy up here in Santa Rosa.

I'm in the San Mateo and/or Fremont area, depending on the day...
