Hey guys,

Just found this wonderful forum last week, it's a great site.

I just purchased my first 914, a 1974 1.8 in Ravenna Green, or as my wife refers to it.....lightning bug butt green.

It is 100% rust free (just had it soda blasted to bare metal) and is in the process of a refresh. I'm reluctant to say restore as that means different things to different folks.

I got the interior back today, the seats and back look terrific and the door panels are wonderful.

I will throw up some photos when I get her back from the shop.

Look forward to many years of enjoyment as a 914 owner.

Regards,

Randy

That is a great color. You may find the term 'refresh' is less controversial. Where did you have your interior done?

I love the color also, after it gets a clear coat I bet it will glow in the dark.

I had all the upholstery work done here in Knoxville, Precision seats and stuff. They are a local shop who have been around for 20+ years and the owner does great work.

The door panels I got from 914 appearance and performance. They are the fiberglass backed ones and I am very impressed with them. Would recommend them if you need new one's.

Just as an FYI if others are wondering about redoing your interior and the cost involved, the seats which included rebuilding them and covering with the basketweave material and recovering the backrest was right at $750.00. The door panels were $275.00. Carpet was around $250, so for less than $1,300 I was able to redo the entire interior. I could have saved about $300 by not using the basketweave, but I wanted to be as close to original as I could.

It was my Christmas present to myself..........:)

Thanks,

Here's some before shots before she went to the blaster and painter.

PS.....The PO had a front hood crest on, would you guys weld it up or put a crest back on, I think the 74 did not have it did it.

No hood crests ever on 914's.

That said, it's a personal preferrence. Mine would be to weld it up.

What a beautiful car!!!

Is that a Fender on the seats and what are your plans for the Targa Bar?

Glenn,
My first thought was that the new guy is restoring a car most of us would shine up and show! Very nice! What are you doing with the engine and transmission? Are you rebuilding the suspension as well?

Randy...nice looking interior parts work....love the color of your 914...as mentioned one of the coolest:cool:
I had a set of wheels like those on a VW beetle in the 70s...think I got them from JC Whitney....one of the few places you could get aftermarket parts then....(no internet stores)
good luck with your project....I know you will have fun with the 914

Thanks guys,

The engine and transmission are in very nice condition and original. I am going to go through the suspension, but the car runs very strong and shifts well.

As for the targa bar and sides I'm going back with the material instead of painting them.

The wheels I havent figured out, I want something different but haven't made a final decision yet.

I have owned several 911's and one 356B, but can honestly say I love this 914 just as much or more, it's just a pure pleasure to drive.

No hood crests ever on 914's.
I agree. It is sorta like a padded bra. Makes those in the know think you must feel inadequate. :)
