Does any one know if there any 914-6 or 4 cars with matching serial # (the last four digits) on the engine, transmission, body or are they used on proto type cars.
Not sure what you meant by "are they used on proto type cars", but the rest of your question makes sense...
By matching numbers, most people mean that the engine and transmission serial numbers are the originals that came with the car, and they match the COA or Kardex from the factory.
On 914-6 the engines serial numbers are split into groups by type, a series for the 901/38 were destined for the US market. Type 901/36 were destined for European market. So the engine serial numbers were incremented at different rates depending on how many cars were produced for each market. The chassis serial numbers were the same for both markets. So as the cars were shipped to different markets, the VIN and the engine serials numbers got further and further apart.
Transmissions were the same for both US and Europe. On both of the sixes I've owned the transmission serial number was 2 more than the chassis. So not exactly the same number, but close enough to be pretty sure it was the original. The COA did not list the trans number for either car though.

My engine number (640 0012) matches the VIN (914 043 0012) but not the transmission number (750 014).
Generally speaking I think on the 1970-71 914/6s the engine number will not match because of the ROW or US engine types being numbered differently.
In 1972 there were only ROW cars so it might be more likely. In the 914/6 Registry engine numbers are generally about 10 higher than the VIN.
On the 914/4 there could be a better chance in 1970-72 because they only made 1 four cylinder displacement engine.

My Cars
#673 has Engine # 6404444
#1724 according to the COA should have Engine # 6404930
I would have to pull the trannies out to get the #s

engine # 901-36 6400011
gear box # 01/0011
11 and 12 don't count:) They are too early to show the out of sequence numbering as they are the first two sixes and are both euro motors.

well, you won't find a US spec six with this kind of matching numbers
the US spec engines started with 6404001 whilest the VIN and tranny numbers didn't have any difference in ROW or US spec ...

And as soon as the first US motor went in a chassis, all the euro motor numbers stopped matching their chassis too. Do we know what the first 901/38 equipped VIN is?

From the 914/6 Registry:
Lowest VIN is 914.043.0031 with 6404018
Lowest Engine No. is 6404014 in 914.043.0033
