Well I own 2 Signal Orange 914-6s (#673 & 1724), both are being restored

#673 was purchased 1 1/2 years ago. It only has 19,000 miles but unfortunately was stored by the original owner in such a way that the passenger side rusted away. Fortunately it came with virtually every part and up to 8 of some parts. It also came with a Truly Rust-free Tangerine 914-4 parts car that I was going to make into a conversion for my son. Problem was, the Ass-Hat that sold me the cars wouldn't give the Title to the 914-4, so I ended up trading it to the shop. My original idea was to make a GT Re-Creation, so I added Factory M-471 GT Flares. But after purchasing #1724 and realizing the Rare options (Factory heated & tinted, rear window, Factory Blaupunkt on #673, plans are changed - 673 will be Street car and 1724 will be the Re-creation.

#1724 was purchased a little over a month ago, very little rust, just been sitting for 23 years. The last (2nd) owner didn't do too much to the car itself, but accumillated a huge stash of GT parts (oil system, Balsa hoods, etc). The car has Factory Flares installed by the Original Dealer. The car had been treated to a bad Black paint job over the Signal Orange. This car will be painted by the same shop doing #673. As I'm waiting for #673, I decided to strip the paint and Bondo. It is very clean underneath.

It looks like #1724 was "as advertised" with little rust?
all you need is a third to recreate the 1971 Monte Carlo rally :p

Yes Glenn, The car was exactly as advertised. The seller is a good guy, I feel sorry that he wasn't able to finish his "Dream". I will do it for him. I talked to him yesterday and will keep in touch with him as he wants to know how I progress on the car.

And I will have to line up another Signal Orange car to "stage" a picture - Maybe the Collier Museum will bring their car up to Tampa if I have a BBQ.

Isn't that one of Armando's repop oil coolers? Somewhere those still have to be available?

Raj over on Early911S started a thread on some German made front mounted coolers. The coolers look pretty good. From Armando's measurements on his site the originals are 20"x4"x4.25". The closest from Raj's link measures 20.75"x4.75"x2.75". As long it fits under the cooler shroud??? Would it? No one really sees it.

Problem for the 914/6GT they DO NOT have the inlet and outlet on the same side. Which make the front trunk space look unoriginal.

Maybe they could be modified or "special" ordered? The website says they are "handmade in Germany"...

Peter, since it is brand new and without the Behr tag, it probably is one of Armandos. Here are some pictures of it, next to an RX7 cooler (going in #673) and an Original Behr that I sold to Edmond Harris a few years ago for $2,500.

Like my friends Devo said, "they've given me a number but they take away my name!".

I think you need to name your cars T.C. :) How about "Leather & Lace"? Ew...I'll let the 80s music references die there.

Reid, I've had 44 cars and never named one, so it's a little late now.

Also just got a bill for the machine work for the motor for #1724 - so far I have over $12K in the motor and I have a sweetheart deal - my engine guy recently put a similar motor on Pelican for $40K

Very cool, care to disclose your source?

I bought the cap off Samba and then did a trade with another 914-6 owner that can make the tabs. Eric has already asked if more tabs can be made. I don't know if he wants to make a bunch of these but I will ask him. He is making me another for #673 as well, but I have to find a neck and I supply the cap, which I found another.

Glenn,

I just picked up an 80mm cap and filler neck for $35.00. I think I have a line on another 80mm filler neck and there's lots of 80mm caps on the Samba.

T.C. sent me a bunch of links that ended up panning out. I'm using the smaller one for the Oel cap.

My source told me that he is working 14 Hour days and doesn't have time or desire to make additional Tabs (Wings) as they take him about 2 hours each to do. I did call a couple of other fabricators friends of mine and I think I will be able to get some soon. Stay Tuned. ;)

I now have a source for the Gas Cap Tabs (Wings) with no rivits like the one I pictured.

I may outlay the money to buy a bunch of them to resell, I will let everyone know.
