I can now see what the oblong holes in the rear panel of 914.043.0011 & 914.043.0012 are for. It looks like the rear bumper cap on 914.111 (prototype) was mounted to the rear panel.

Check your 914 history books. Porsche got a patent on an energy-absorbing bumper that they were going to use on the 914, where the metal part of the bumper was mounted on leaf springs and the top rubber part was mounted to the body. I'm pretty sure that's what the Piech car has on it. It was built from one of the pre-production prototype cars.
