Gustl's questions recently about the LSD indicator used on the 914/01 transmission (and resulting photo of such transmission) has led me to break up the existing 901 transmission article on the wiki and create an article specific to the 914/xx transmissions.
I am curious to have some experts review the article for correctness. I included some serial number photos provided to me by Gustl and some others as well as some photos of a few transmissions I have.
As with anything wiki related, feel free to edit the pages if you find anything wrong or even create an article. If anyone has any questions about how to create/edit pages on the wiki just let me know.

I only added "a modified version of" the tail-shift linkage to the discussion of the 914-6 setup. The difference between the Four tail-shifter and the Six one surprised me when I first saw it.
For one (very important!) thing, there is no "monkey motion assembly" that reverses the direction of rotation of the shift rods on the Six. I believe there is a universal joint, kind of similar to the one on the side-shift cars (but much smaller!) and the rotation reversal is dealt with on the tail end of the rear shift rod. I remember having to stare at it--hard--for a while to figure that out.
I would bet that the main reason that was done on the Sixes was because they didn't have to put the shift linkage over to the side to get it out of the way of the sump, like the four-cylinder cars did.
Would it be worth adding a section comparing the three types of linkage?

First, I noticed a few people made some edits and I greatly appreciate the contributions!
Regarding the tail shift linkage… I wasn't aware of the different between the 4 and 6 tail shift linkage. There probably is enough details about the shift linkage to justify an article just for the shift linkage. I created a mostly empty template article so fee free to edit. If you don’t feel you can format and make things look nice, don’t worry about that as I can go back and clean stuff up. Mostly we just need good and accurate info. It can look pretty later. :)
I also need to create a "how to" on uploading photos and including them into an article. For now, if you have any photos or diagrams that want me to include and you don't know how to upload them into the wiki you can PM me and I can give you my email address and I can upload them for you.
