could an original 914-6 transmission with the factory option M220 (limited slip differential) be identified by the transmission number ???

I know the difference at the 914-4 transmission:
HAxxxxx ... 5 speed standard
HBxxxxx ... 5 speed LSD

any input is highly appreciated

as far as I know there is no indication in the transmission number that it is equipped with LSD. That being said I have never seen a factory equipped LSD tranny. I would think the 911 guys might have more experiences with this?

I have seen one as they are quite rare but you could order nearly anything when buying a new 914 at the dealers. David Said had one in his AX Red car.

Regarding the above picture...where the heck is that on the transaxle?

I am trying to determine the serial number of my '71 914-6 transaxle. Unfortunately, the number stamped on the seam/ridge on the bottom of the transaxle is pretty buggered up from someone jacking the car up from that point apparently. Is the serial number located anywhere else that I can read it while it is in the car? Thank you.

I may have found the answer in the Wiki article. I will be looking for a "square raised section of the casting directly under the differential". In the morning I will crawl under the car and see what I can see....wish me luck.
