It has been rumored that a 914-4 Sportomatic was built into a prototype, but few details exist. I have copied the following pages from my 1970 version of the Service Information booklet. These offer some interesting facts about this version.

I always wondered how they mounted the trans fluid pump, thanks for sharing this Dave!

It seems to show an oil tank as was used as in the six. Probably a different version due to no need for the oil filter and console.

The 914/6 sporto transmission was given the type designation of "914/05". Anyone know what the designation was for the 914/4 sporto transmission?

914/15 - 56Zxxxx - Sportomatic for 4-cyl according to Grady Clay who writes:

FYI, the 914-6 transmission numbers are 7XZxxxx:
7 = Transmission for 6-cylinder engine (5=4-cyl)
X = Transmission type; 5=5-speed manual, 6=4-speed Sportomatic, 9=Special.
Z = Model year; 0=1970, 1=1971, 2=1972, 3=1973.
xxxx = Serial number.

The type numbers are:
914/01 - 75Zxxxx - 5-speed
914/05 - 76Zxxxx - Sportomatic for 6-cyl.
914/15 - 56Zxxxx - Sportomatic for 4-cyl.
