Was the Ginther windscreen a reversable modification?
David Lee has an excerpt from an early Pano that claims my car once had a Ginther windscreen. It could have been a typo in the VIN, but I've always wondered.
Was the Ginther windscreen a reversable modification? Yes you need to re-weld the windshield frame back on

It's a /6. VIN number... 9140432318.
I'd really have to dig back to find which Pano... give me a bit.

Wow... that was quick! :)
I wonder what a Ginther suspension was... maybe it was set up by him. It had horrible KYBs on when I bought it.

I have it all in a Database

Was the Ginther windscreen a reversible modification?
Not really. The windshield frame was removed. However, on #0033 the owner did it in such a way as to be able to pin the windshield frame in the same manner as a Speedster. Thus it could be made open or closed in about 20 minutes. This is the only known car to run both ways in period.
Yes you need to re-weld the windshield frame back on
Here is a picture of where they cut the windshield frame (Ginther's shop 1970)

There is $1500 or more in seals right there. The shame of it all.
Here is the auxiliary oil cooler in the rear trunk

Any time you have an opportunity, get the VIN and something on the history of the car. Since many cars change a lot over the years, the VIN is the only thing to tie things together.

Bob Hindson restored his 914-6 sometime in the mid eightys. The car was in California and was pictured in an artical of Excellence or Pano a couple of years ? ago. It would take me forever to find the article. Maybe someone remembers it.
I found the picture of the original Ginther car I was referring to

That is Hindsons old car. I'm sure it is in California because of the blurb in Excellance a while back.

Here is the auxiliary oil cooler in the rear trunk
I guess the aux oil cooler is there because they didn't want to cut the car up?
I wonder where the oil lines are coming from?
Not sure how well that worked since no air is through and the trunk itself gets pretty hot.
Interesting just the same.

I think the rules prohibited doing so

I would be interested to see if they had a thermostat, or if it was connected to the engine and oil tank

Hello Dennis good to see you here!

That would be great! I have always wondered how early (low serial number) the Ginther car's were.

I finally found it!
SCCA would not allow holes to be cut into the body to mount a swaybar so Ginther developed an under the body swaybar. He also used the dual adjustable rear shocks and harder than stock bushing.

Glenn, thank you for the picture!
I was under the impression that all 914-6s came with front and rear swaybars as stock. Is there any benefit to adding another, or am I incorrect?

Lawrence,
All 914/6s did not come with a swaybar it was an option. the swaybar in the picture is a replacement/substitution for the stock unit. it look like it hangs pretty low to me.
Does your car still have this swaybar? do you have the double adjustable shocks in the rear?

I don't think the Sixes had swaybars, stock. I'm not even sure they were an option until 73, when the Six was no more!

I'm guessing the VIN's are very low, like under 0030. 0033 was one of the cars brought in about the earliest, and Ginther had his cars at that time or earlier.
