if you're talking about the fog lamp - yes, I have one (I mean, not only a picture :) )

unfortunately no bracket ...

Could we get a nice detailed front and rear picture of the lite?

I found this picture that someone named Snow from Germany sent me, I wish it had more detail.

off course - but not before weekend

I'll have to dig it out of my storage at the cellar, and I'm too busy during the week

here we go

sorry for the "not so good photos" ...

unfortunately the seal is broken, but the rest is really nice (although not perfect - this is no mint part)

I believe the light is still available. I have seen it listed as a Model 100 and as HL81102. I have one I picked up on ebay a while back.

Gustl, do you have the dimensions for the bracket attached to the lamp? Someone had posted dimensions for the inside portion of the bracket, but indicated that the outer portion is NLA. I'd like to mount my rear fog similar to the factory method.

Thanks

Ok, so how do you wire it in?

gms

I would think it is wired in with the taillight running lite.

I did some searching and came up with:
in german = nebel rücklicht (fog tail light)

Also used on :
Mercedes W108, W115, W116 & W123

I'm not sure about the meaning of "taillight running lite"

but in general the fog tail light has to have a seperated switch

you may only use it at bad sight, like heavy fog, heavy rain or snow fall

it's much brighter than the standard tail light and IIRC it's even brighter than the break lights

Gustl, do you have the dimensions for the bracket attached to the lamp?

I'm working on that ... but I had no luck getting off the nut, it's heavily rusted to the screw :(

I used WD40 for the last 5 hours, but no chance yet
and as you might imagine, I don't want to damage it

CA vehicle code says rear fog lights may only be used when visibility is 500' or less. It should have it's own switch, or be wired with the front fog to a special Hella switch with pull and turn functions to control front and rear separately.

If you use it when visibilty is not impaired it will be VERY bright and anoying to those behind you. Just think of all the idiots in Audi's you have seen using their rear fog on a clear night!

I tried my best, but I didn't get the bracket off the lamp

so I had to do some hand drawing - I hope that's good enaugh ...

the fine green lines are exactly 1 mm, the slightly fater ones are exactly 1 cm

use a rust penatrant like PB Blaster or Knockloose to free it up. I saw products like this in Holland...

Gustl,

Thanks for the sketch and the photos of the bracket. The graph paper along side should help with dimensions.

As the original rear fog lamp mounts for the 914 are no longer available, and would have required drilling anyway which I generally hesitate to do, I fabricated an alternative attached to the rear license plate bracket. I believe that I used an old VW Beetle bracket and cut it to 15 1/2 cm in length.

I found one, my friend had it on his tractor! he said he bought it in Germany many years ago. I told him that I must have it and he gave it to me.

Mounted mine over the weekend. I have two and it looks like the chrome one was ruined in rechroming. They warped it a bit. :(

I'll post some pics.

Did you fab the bracket?

Eric_Shea

Yes... I had about 3 made at the time. I'll get some detailed pics.

Here's some close-ups of the bracket etc.

I mounted the newer style right now but, I'll either throw the early lens on it or find a complete chrome unit.

Inner bracket is new. Outer bracket was fabbed by Kingdon Sheet Metal here in SLC.

I guess so... I wonder about that piece (the one you sent to Tom Bliznik). It's stainless. I've never seen a factory piece in stainless like that but...

What are your thoughts on that?

I didn't think about this before :o

It was a new Chrome Hella unit. Not the proper mount (to be expected) but a new light unit. I bought one... I hope they have it. I'll keep you posted.

Now all you need is the wiring harness from Jeff. ;)

I got the fog light from the UK and it's spot on. The only issue for us geeks is the new lens. I remedied this but, in wanting to use the new shiney screws I found them to be too long. Back to the old screws (which are fine actually).

So, it appears the chrome is still available. The mount would work as well however not correct as it is just a post. Beyond that, the attachment point is identical so, I will remove the new mount and attach it to my 914 style mount and this will be in the history books. ;)

P.S. Jeff Bowlsby has the plans for the factory harness as well. I got mine from him.
