914 Mirrors

Here is a comparison between the early and late 914 mirrors.

I have heard that there is a difference between left & right side mirrors.
Has anyone identified the difference?

I don't think the right side has flat glass mirror. It probably is convex. This is common for most right side mirrors, hence the "Objects are closer than they appear".

left & right side mirrors have the same housings, but - as Dave already mentioned - the left mirror is flat and the right one is convex

interesting detail: the convex one costs about half the price from the flat one

Should have been more specific, anything different besides the mirror glass.
I had heard (years ago) that the base was different??

Dr. B. Johnson tells us that the angle and the mirror size changed for 1972

but there's no proof from my side ;)

I looked in the parts catalog and found:

914.731.112.10 - Rear View Mirror, Outer (Sweden)
914.731.040.10 - Rear View Mirror, Outer (Konvex)

Both indicate passenger side...so what did Sweden get?

One of my parts cars has the pasenger mirror. I looked up the part # and then went to one of the suppliers sites and found four listings for the mirrors. 039 is the drivers side and 040 is the passenger.

What does the ESZ mean?

here's a pic of the two mirrors from the car (it was a 72). Note the two bases are different and the passenger one (left one shown) has the following serial number on the back "III TP-RT210"

My mirror has a "III TP-RT210" on it too, I think it might be an aftermarket version by the original manufacturer???
