I'm currently building a stock'sh 2.0, and am having the motor convertered over to use a hydraulic cam and lifters. I know that I won't have much wiggle room when it comes to cam profiles with the stock D-Jet, but I'm sure I can get a little more aggressive with the lift. We'll be using dual valve springs to combat valve float. What's the recommended cam profile? Stock?

Otherwise, US pistons, stock valves, stock everything else. Just building a reliable motor while making plans to convert to a six in the next year.

Thanks!

Forget the hydro's and get a Raby 9550 cam with matching lifters, a single spring HD Valve springw with the upgraded retainers and keepers. The dual springs have too much tension and slam the valves to the head, not good. I can rev mine to 6500 no problem, power band cuts off near 5500 now vs stock 4000-4500.

What you are planning is nearly impossible to get running right and the hydros and Djet don't mix too well.

If you run the Raby cam set etc it will blow you mind for a nice little upgrade.

I have done it on 3 motors now, killer setup.:D

What's the problem with hydraulic valves and d-jet?

I'll look into the raby stuff, thanks!

Raby is asking $275 bucks for a cam. That's out of my budget for this project. I get wholesale prices through my machnist, and I can get an Elgin cam with lifters for less than the cost of his cam.

Stock power is really OK with this project. I'm just looking to build a lower fuss-factor, reliable motor. :)

So, back to the problems with hydraulic cams and D-jet...

stay with the single HD springs then.

Raby cams factor in the huge cost of him redesigning the cam lobe profiles to stop the cam/lifters failures that were happening.

Use the elgin cams as they are ok.

The hydro cams have a different profile causing problems with the manifold vacuum signature. Djet is very sensitive to cam timing and vacuum plus valve overlap as its a hard wired ECU for a stock specific motor. Adjusting the MPS (as I do) can fix air/fuel ratio issues but not valve/cam issues.

I worked on two hydro cam djet motors and had then pull out the cams finally as they didn't run right.

I looked it up and Raby's price is for a cam and lifter SET. So thats a fair price a $275 for both as a matched set. Thats with new lifters I think, not reground ones.

Ya, that's a good price then. :)
