Interesting location for the lug wrench. Guess it kept it close-at-hand & assume that style of wrench made tire changing faster. Anyone know if any of the drivers of that race/enduro actually had to pull off & change his own tire?

I think I've read somewhere that they really had to change their tyres alone. A big advantage of the 3 Porsche 914-6 GTs was, that Porsche put very special tyres on their cars. This was one of the mayor reasons, why the 914-6 GTs won the race even if they had much less power that other cars (they used carbed 2.0 S engines with 160 HP).
They simply spent less time in changing tyres - and due to the "low-power-engines" they had no tech problems with the cars.
My favorite option on these GTs... the rear shade

We're turning this into an 914/6 GT thread for the "Marathon" cars.
Here is the front trunk w/26.4 gallon fuel tank.
914/6 GTs taking the flag!
2 other 914/6s participated in this race:
#61 Walter Simonis/ Horst Hoier / Kayser - DNF bad accident
#19 Erwin Kramer/ Franz-Josef Rieder/ Degan - DNF crankshaft

That's REALLY cool - never seen it before! Suppose it was used for nightime headlight blindness protection. Maybe late afternoon sun protection fro the rear.
Does it have a part #?

cool car !!
interesting detail: "your" car has the V-rollcage, the original car not (at least at the 86h race)

in this picture above - yes (although it doesn't look factory original to me)
but I have hi-res photos of all 3 cars at the 86h race where you can see that none of 'em had a cage from the factory
same for the #61 car (Simonis / Hoier / Kayser)

I never realised that they never had cages...and to think the raced them at the 'Ring! ....without a cage?

This is a picture of the car after being restored by Miles Collier, it was taken in the mid '80s

I was wondering about this fact every now and then ... really strange ... almost unbelievable ...
at least the '71 Monte GTs had cages ... half a year later
but the cars for the '71 Monte practicing had none
I went thru some period pictures and noticed that a cage was not noticeable on any of the 1970 pictures but is noticeable on every 1971 and after picture.
a cleaner picture of an older post
