I have mads an interesting discovery. I have 3 cars that are 74's. The headlight buckets are different. One car dated 05/74 is different from the other 2 which are 74 cars by the serial number but were made September and October of 1973. I discovered this because the older 74 needs a drivers side bucket. I have been having a difficult time finding the correct one. Here are 2 pictures. In the front, you can see the difference. I wonder when they made the change?
The first picture is the 73 style bucket. The one on the right is the true 74 style. The difference is seen in the front. The apron is shaped different. This is also different on the botton of the bucket. So it not just an apron difference

Have you sent me a list of your 914's with VIN, paint code, chassis # and DOT date code yet? If not that would be most useful. Detail differences like this a valuable to know. Not all were documented if the change had no real effect on anything else.

I was wrong. My car was repaired and new parts for a 75 were used. The apron was cut near the bucket. This left a symetrical look. No doubt the old bucket was different from the other side. It is long gone. I need to find a bucket for a 75 or a 76.

It was next to body parts and many other parts of the modified 1975 model changes. The lamp boxes were due to the now installed in front damper (shortened).
See attached list of changed body parts.
It was an example of the lamp boxes added under the part no.

Hi Klaus.
The problem turned out to be more that the bucket itself. There had been a previous where half of the front apron and one bucket was replaced. Now I am repairing this because the bucket that was not replaced was rusted. Half of the front (apron and bucket) was for a 75 (replaced parts). The othere half was rusted and original for a 74. To make the repair more complete, I used all 75 parts.
