Glenn, you posted some info on the four corner plates before. Are all of the plates identical? What material and thickness? I have some stainless about the right size, but it is rather thick (guessing between 0.62 and .100").

I seem to recal reading on the internet on one of the "other" sites that a single template could be used and flipped to make the top vs bottom scuff plates. How much can you really trust these internet sources?? :rolleyes:
I like how originals have a beveled look to the edge, most DIY versons are simply flat. If you or someone is tooling up for this project, I am definitely interested in sending some $$$ for 4 GT spec scuff plates. Cheers

Michel is going to send me the templates, and I will draw them up in a CAD program. However, I do need the additional info from Glenn. I will make my own set, and probably can make a few more sets.
I'd like to start a thread on where to acquire several of the GT parts. There have been threads elsewhere (ahem) on door pulls, handles, oil lines, etc. I'd like to pull this all together as a feature resource section.

Dave, have you talked with Armando Serrano about your questions? He seems to have a pretty good handle on a lot of the GT stuff--and his website has a significant collection of the information you were talking about collecting...

I have spoken with Armando in the past. Glenn has some new hood plates, so that is why I was asking him. As far as the resource thread, Armando's site will be featured prominently in the links. I was never planning on putting the content directly here. Links to the information work much better. My plan was to collect and organize the links to the content. Threads on the 914World site can get buried quickly, however the link to a thread will not change.

I have an original german set in stainles steel; they were already on my car in Schwabisch Gmund in 1974; I have them currently installed with mouilding tape instead of rivets & could remove them for reproduction; you can see them at www.pelicanparts.com/pmpre/images/larryM/Ventura_4x5_600x800.jpg
I've seen repro's in aluminum on a plastic gt replica at CRAB last spring

Larry - nice lookin 914! From the small photo it almost looks like you have the scuff plates but no hood pins? That makes sense if they are not on permanently.

one thing y'all need to know - the originals are not flat pieces;
they are stamped, with a slight bevel on all edges, probably to allow for a seal or gasket underneath; not real easy to reproduce, and definitely not "reversible" as suggested above

correct - I did not want to drill holes in those originals or in that hood, partly because I like the cleaner front look without the plates;
but they are great conversation pieces at shows, (and the lady of the house prefers that they be there)
I do have a second hood in the shed & if I had a repro set of plates I'd drill 'em for the race track

Aha, I thought they would be very thick and heavy if that bevel was on the edge of the metal. This did not seem to be correct. So how deep is the recess, and what is the metal thickness? What was used to fit the cavity, rubber, foam?
I finally had a chance to get a picture of the plate bottoms.
They are made of 0.7 mm thick stainless steel
It was very difficult to get a picture to show the beveled edge.

There are 2 shapes, front plate and rear plate

1) The interior door handles are from a FIAT 700
2) The door pulls are from the RSR
3) Some of the oil hoses can be fabricated from aluminum hose ends found on the 914/6 and the small ones from a 911 S (69-73)

How wide and how deep is the bevel? I expect they are stamped, and the corners are not slotted. Michel has not sent the templates yet, but I have been talking with a fellow that can fabricate them.
