View Full Version : 1969 914/6 at Car Show
Does anyone know what show this is at? I am guessing it is in Europe.
The picture is October or November 1969

might be at the IAA in Frankfurth
took place from September 21-28, 1969
I found this in "The Big Book" it is labeled The IAA Star.
I see some differences in the display but it looks kind of close.

I posted this Q on two other threads about the model's development history--as the one of the '68 sketch: Does anyone know what mo of 68 or 69 the final design was set--presumably in a small scale (clay) model? And what mo--presumably 69, the firstdrivable prototype was finished? Was the prototype saved, or destroyed when the production run started" What mo did the production run begin?

From what I have read, the first prototypes were built with variations like the dual front head lites, different gas caps(outside hood access), different front nose treatment. Then Porsche built the two 914/8 cars and then the first 914/6 car which is #4, vin ending in 114. This car was taken out of Porsche's locked storage area and shipped to the USA (stolen) by the USA sales rep. It was later sold to someone and lost....until 2003. One other prototype car has surived and its in Germany (for sale) so there are 4 prototypes still around-2 914/8's and 2 914/6's.
The Signal yellow car is the #4 914/6 and the red car has the outside gas cap on the front hood, both cars are prototypes. The prototypes were hand made car with lots of rough body work underneath. The inner wheelhouses are pounded out and very rough looking so they weren't made to be for sale. Some chassis stampings are very different from the final finished cars too as I guess they were trial fitments of parts and pieces from suppliers.
I am not sure of the dates when these were produced. I would venture to say Andy Schmidt knows as he researched all of this in 2003-2005.
